As everyone connected  to Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School knows firsthand, learning involves so much more than just the transmission of information. What sets ECS apart is the fact that this school’s primary goal is to instill in its students a deep love of learning.

That perspective has sustained the school now for a full century. And now we are looking towards the future, just as Maud Edgar and Mary Cramp did in 1909 when they made the courageous decision to move to an unfamiliar city to establish a new kind of school for girls. Miss Edgar and Miss Cramp knew that women, who did not yet have the vote and were only rarely attending university, were going to come into their own in the 20th Century. Looking towards a future when women would take their rightful places in leadership roles in all fields of endeavour, the founders of ECS established a school that would encourage girls and young women to develop the curiosity, the discipline and the daring that would prepare them for the unseen frontiers of opportunity that lay before them.

Now, it’s our turn to do it again.

This year, our Annual Giving Appeal focuses on two special projects to mark our Centennial year: the establishment of a new Junior School bursary, to allow very young girls to begin their adventure at ECS at an age when they are best able to develop the passion for learning and the basic study skills to succeed academically; and the creation of the Faculty Professional Development Fund, to provide special opportunities for our teachers to expand their instructional skills so that they are better equipped to create new and challenging learning opportunities for our students.
