A GRAND DAY IN JUNIOR SCHOOL
5/31/2010
The grins stretched from ear to ear. The eyes sparkled with delight. The chatter was laced with excitement. And that was just the grandparents…
The ECS Junior School held its first Grandparents Day in many years on May 27th, and by all accounts the event was a grand success.
Girls from Kindergarten to Grade 5 each invited one grandparent or another “grand” person in their lives to join them at the School for the afternoon. The proceedings got underway with a full gathering in the Gym, where Head of School Katherine Nikidis and Junior School Director Danielle Rougeau welcomed everyone. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 performed musical numbers, including an African welcome song that showcased both vocal and instrumental talents.
The girls and their guests then divided into two groups, one bound for the Alan and Roula Rossy Family Dining Room, the other for classrooms in Junior School. The first group enjoyed a delightful tea and conversation with the girls and their friends, while the second learned more about the ECS curriculum, and the various exciting projects that have taken place this year. As one duly impressed grandmother remarked, “these girls do SO much—and so well!!”
The afternoon wound down with visits to the annual ECS “Book Bash,” where many of the grand-people took the opportunity to invest in their grandchild’s ongoing education by purchasing books that are on the School’s Summer Reading Lists. Between the books, the many heartfelt messages inscribed in them by the purchasers, the conversations that afternoon, and the ones that will undoubtedly follow, the girls and their special guests will have memories of their ECS afternoon to last a lifetime.
