The entire ECS community was thrilled to watch Bianca Farella (Class of 2009) representing Canada on the Rugby Sevens team in Rio. The team won Bronze in their game against rival Great Britain on August 8^th.

Throughout the few but intense days of play Bianca showed the world the speed and scoring ability she demonstrated in her early days of playing rugby in high school.

After graduating from ECS, she was a dominant force in the Quebec CEGEP league where she was a three-time all-star and the team MVP with the Dawson College Blues.  She led the Blues to three consecutive RSEQ championships.

She went on to study at Concordia, where she was named the university’s Rookie of the Year in 2012. That same year, she was recognized by the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) as an all-Canadian in women's rugby. Later that year she joined Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team, and never looked back.

Now 22, Bianca has built a well-earned reputation as one of the top scorers in the world. She played in eight of the nine Women’s Sevens World Series events since the WSWS began in 2012-13. Her 36 tries and 180 points are the fourth most all-time by any player in SWS history. In the summer of 2014, she was a key member of the winning team that took gold at the FISU Women’s Sevens Championship.

 

Shortly after winning this week’s medal in Rio, Bianca tweeted: “How I feel is so hard to put into words. This has always been a long-term dream and now it is complete . . . ”
