ECS' Francisation programme is designed to support students who are new to Quebec and the French language by developing their linguistic skills, cultural and social knowledge, and learning strategies.
Our dedicated teachers play a key role in nurturing a lifelong love of language, tailoring their teaching methods to meet each student's unique needs and highlighting the asset of bilingualism as a gateway to future opportunities. Following two years of Francisation at ECS, they have the core competencies needed to clearly express themselves, read, comprehend and write in French:
Oral Skills
Students understand and produce a variety of messages on familiar topics, expressing their ideas and opinions, and can initiate, sustain and conclude an exchange. They apply social codes related to interactions and understand messages from audio and video documents. Students are also able to produce simple, well-structured statements and complex statements with errors. They use a variety of common words and show their understanding by reusing statements in different contexts.
Reading Skills
Students read a variety of texts, including narrative and informational content. They grasp main ideas and details and can answer comprehension questions. Advanced reading strategies, such as prediction, inference, and summarization, are used to enhance understanding. They can also identify and understand linguistic and cultural conventions in texts.
Writing Skills
Students write simple and complex sentences, organizing their ideas coherently. They use a broader vocabulary and show improved mastery of syntax and verbal morphology. While spelling and grammar errors persist, they are less frequent, and students use strategies to self-correct and improve their writing quality with teacher support.
