ECS is excited to be undertaking an ambitious renovation project in the Junior School over the upcoming summer break.
Over the last several months, the school has been busy consulting with experts in their fields about options for redesigning and reinventing the Library Level floor of the Junior School, which currently houses locker rooms, the snack area, workshops, and storage spaces.
Working on a building that was originally constructed more than 100 years ago and then has been adapted to the changing needs of occupants over the years presented several interesting challenges.
ECS has now developed a comprehensive plan that is both financially sustainable and aligned with the vision for the future of the Junior School.
The new area will be very open, bright, and beautifully designed. Students will circulate and interact within an open-concept environment, where cubbies, sitting areas, gathering places and project spaces are geared to their needs. The new Exploratorium will support group enterprises such as Robotics, as well as individual “explorations.”
In order to realize this ambitious project, the renovation team will need to begin their work before the end of the school year. The Junior School team is therefore looking at options for relocating some classes to other areas of the school as well as taking students off-site for stimulating educational experiences during the final week of school.
ECS Head of School Katherine Nikidis says she, “looks forward to providing further updates about this project with our entire community in the weeks and months to come!”
