HEADS FOR THE DAY DO LUNCH--AND MORE!

Thanks to their parents' participation in the Golf & Gala auction, two Junior School students spent May 27th acting as ECS’s Head of School.
From a school-wide assembly in the early morning to a Board retreat in the late afternoon, Alex B. and Zoë M. enjoyed a busy and varied day, designed to introduce them to a variety of experiences and individuals.

Their special day began with an exciting drive to work alongside Ms. Nikidis herself, in her trademark Volkswagen beetle convertible (top-down, thanks to the beautiful weather!) Upon arrival the girls quickly made their way to the gym for a full-school assembly, where they had the opportunity to present medals to members of the ECS tennis teams.

They then accompanied Ms. Nikidis to her regular Monday morning meeting with the School’s Academic Directors, where the girls gave feedback and input on the important topic of the back field—addressing issues ranging from muddy footwear to the importance of preserving green spaces at ECS.

Like any Head of School, Alex and Zoë were responsible for welcoming guests to ECS, which they were proud and pleased to do when a group from Kahnawàke arrived for a tour, followed by an information session about technology.

After their busy morning, the busy leadership duo was ready to sit down and enjoy an informal lunch of healthy salads with two students from the Grade 11 class. They returned to the same setting later in the afternoon (after spending some time in their regular class) to “do tea” with two ECS Old Girls, Cynthia Hutchison (’77) and Tiffany Ajmo (’91). The girls delicately sipped their tea, while listening to stories of how much has changed at ECS over the years (technology, facilities, and more) yet so much has remained the same (House pride, lifelong friendships, great teachers…)

As their working day wound down, the girls headed over to the Atwater Club with Ms. Nikidis, where a special end-of-the-year Board meeting was about to get underway. They eagerly participated in the initial “meet and greet” and then left their more experienced mentor and guide to continue with her regular responsibilities. As much as they enjoyed their day at the top, the twosome seemed content to return to their familiar Grade 3 dossier—for now!
