Admissions

Applying to ECS

Choosing the right school for your daughter is a big decision.

At ECS, we value and steward each student’s unique journey. Your daughter will be empowered to explore her interests and passions while developing an entrepreneurial mindset designed to foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and resilience. Your family will be welcomed into our small-by-design community-oriented family.

We are here to guide you through the admissions process, every step of the way. Should you have any questions or concerns as you work through this process, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Admissions Team.

We work on a rolling schedule, and welcome applications at any time during the year, but we highly recommend starting the process early in order to meet our standard application deadlines.

STEP 1: Get the Ball Rolling

Help us get to know your daughter and family by filling out our Intake Form. From here, we will get in touch with you to answer all your initial questions and set you up with your online application login and password.

STEP 2: Complete Your Online Application

We ask that all students and their families to fill out an Application form and to provide the following documents:

STEP 3: Participate in the Evaluation Process

Once your profile is complete, you will be invited to participate in a family interview (child and parents). Student assessment varies depending on grade level.

Kindergarten: Applicants will be invited to participate in a Readiness Visit for fun activities in preparation for their entry to Kindergarten.

Grades 1 to 6: Applicants will be invited for a Spend-A-Day at ECS where they will have a unique opportunity to meet our students and teachers and learn more about our vibrant school environment.

Grade 7: Common Admissions Test (CAT)

As part of the evaluation process, Grade 7 applicants will be invited to write the Common Admissions Test (CAT), which represents one part of each student profile.

Please see below for some important information about the CAT:
  • There are three parts to the CAT: ability test (e.g., logic-type questions), reading comprehension, and attitudes towards learning (no math, no french).
  • No preparation/studying is required.
  • The test is multiple choice.
  • The test is online, so students complete it in the comfort of their own home.
  • The test will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete, but parents must ensure they are available for the full morning of the test date (i.e., 8 am - 12 pm).
  • This is a common admission test for three other QAIS schools: LCC, Bialik and St. George’s. This means that students applying to ECS or any other three schools need only complete the admission test once.
  • Students who qualify for accommodations will receive extra time and reading assistance.
  • The CAT is administered by our third-party partner, Brisson Legris (BL). Registration and payment for the test are completed through the BL registration form, NOT through the BHS application system, Open Apply.
  • Students can access a few sample questions to familiarize themselves with the test.
  • The cost of the test, regardless of the number of schools receiving the results, is $74.75 and is payable directly to Brisson Legris through the online test registration.
  • A computer and stable internet connection are required to complete the CAT.
For more information, please contact our Admissions Team at 514-935-6357 or at  admissions@ecs.qc.ca.

Grades 8-11: The admissions office will be in touch with all applicants to schedule admission testing.

STEP 4: Wait for a Decision

The Admissions Committee meets and a decision is usually made within two weeks of the applicant's evaluation.
Join us at one of our upcoming in-person or virtual Admissions events and meet our students, faculty, and leadership.

Eligibility

In the province of Québec, access to English schooling is governed by the provisions in Bill 115. Simply stated, English schools receiving grants from the government can only accept students who have their Certificate of Eligibility to study in an English school.

ECS’ Junior School programme does not receive government grants. As such, children attending the Junior School programme (K-6) do not require a Certificate of Eligibility to attend the school. However, because ECS receives partial government funding for its Middle and Senior School programmes, students in Middle School and Senior School (Grades 7-11) do require the Certificate of Eligibility to attend our school.

International and Outside of Quebec Students

As our community continues to grow and diversify, we are thrilled to welcome families from across Canada and around the world.
