About ECS
Founded in 1909 by two trailblazing women, Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School (ECS) is a renowned Montreal institution, serving students from Kindergarten to Grade 11, with Pre-University (Grade 12) launching in September 2026.
ECS is known for its strong academic programme, commitment to leadership, and close-knit community. Its progressive whole-girl approach emphasizes critical thinking, initiative, and global citizenship through the signature Entrepreneurial Platform (EP), STEAM, co-curriculars and athletics.
Having chosen to forgo government grants, ECS has affirmed its independence and is advancing a capital campaign to support programme development, facilities enhancements, and long-term financial sustainability.
ECS is seeking a dynamic and visionary Head of School to lead the school into its next chapter of growth as it transitions to a full K–12 institution.
The Position
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Head of School is the chief executive and educational leader of ECS. They are responsible for ensuring academic excellence, school operations, strategic planning, philanthropy, and community engagement.
The next Head of School will play a central role in:
Implementing the school’s multi-year Strategic Plan
Leading the expansion to Pre-University
Advancing ECS’s capital campaign, “Above & Beyond”
Strengthening donor and community relationships
Promoting a mission-aligned, inclusive, bilingual school culture
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership aligned with ECS’s mission, values, and long-term vision.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team on key initiatives.
Lead the successful launch of ECS's Pre-University programme and the transition to a full K–12 program.
Ensure academic excellence rooted in current pedagogical research and best practices.
Recruit, support, and inspire faculty and staff through effective leadership and coaching.
Promote student well-being, bilingual learning, and a safe, inclusive school environment.
Oversee operational and financial management, including budgeting, facilities, risk, and compliance.
Partner with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and strategic alignment.
Lead and strengthen the school’s capital campaign, engaging donors and cultivating a culture of philanthropy.
Serve as the primary ambassador of ECS, cultivating strong relationships with parents, alumnae, community partners, and peer schools.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of senior school leadership experience.
Excellent communication skills in both French and English.
Demonstrated success in leading change, managing teams, and implementing strategic initiatives.
Strong academic background with knowledge of current pedagogical trends.
Proven ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders including parents, staff, alumnae, and donors.
Experience leading fundraising efforts or capital campaigns.
Commitment to student well-being, academic excellence, and the development of young women.
Desired Competencies
Understanding of independent-school finance, governance, and risk management.
Experience guiding institutional growth, including facilities modernization and resource planning.
Ability to represent the school with confidence and influence across educational networks.
