Choosing the right post-secondary path is an important decision. This FAQ addresses the most frequently asked questions about ECS’s Pre-University Programme, ensuring students and families are well informed on the experience, expectations, and opportunities that define this pivotal year.

  • How does the ECS Pre-University programme differ from CEGEP in Quebec?

    Students at ECS will complete a Pre-University year and apply directly to universities with the Ontario OSSD diploma, while CEGEP in Quebec requires two years of study.
  • How many courses do students take in our Pre-University Programme?

    Students must complete 7 courses in our year long Pre-University programme.
  • Which pathways do you offer?

    There are three pathways: Science, Commerce, and Liberal Arts, with required courses and electives that align with their university goals. For more detailed information, consult our viewbook here.
  • What does the curriculum look like?

    Our high level academics prepare students for university courses in Science, Commerce, or Liberal Arts. There are seven courses to be completed: three per semester and one year-long class. For the course offerings and descriptions, please click here.
  • What differentiates the ECS Pre-University programme?

    The ECS Pre-University Programme builds on our established 360° approach to learning and long-standing expertise in girls’ education. Alongside strong academics, students benefit from integrated co-ops, mentorship, and a focus on balance and wellness.

    Distinctive to ECS are our signature programmes: Her Future by Design and The Non Nobis Philanthropy Programme, which connect learning to applied experience. Graduates leave ECS prepared for both university and life beyond the classroom. Learn more here.
  • Are international students eligible for the programme?

    Yes. ECS welcomes students from around the world, provided they meet the English proficiency requirements. For more information, please visit our application page here.
  • Can you apply to university directly from the ECS Pre-University programme?

    Yes, students can apply to university directly from our programme. Students will be receiving an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
  • Is the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) recognized worldwide?

    Yes. The OSSD is widely recognized in Canada and internationally, accepted by universities locally across Canada, the United States, the UK, Europe, and beyond. Students then enter directly into a four-year university Baccalaureate programme.
  • How will the Pre-University environment be distinct from the rest of the school?

    Pre-University students learn in a dedicated space, do not wear uniforms, and have greater flexibility in their schedules. Participation in most school events is optional, allowing them to independently manage their time and responsibilities.
  • How does the ECS Pre-University Programme differ from CEGEP?

    The ECS Pre-University Programme offers a more structured and guided pathway to university than CEGEP. Within a focused one-year programme, students become well versed in university expectations, supporting a seamless transition.
  • Will students have access to guidance and academic counselling?

    Yes. Students will receive ongoing academic advising throughout the ECS Pre-University Programme, including guidance and comprehensive support for the university application and selection process. They will also have a dedicated coordinator who is their point of contact, who can also connect them with mentors, our alumnae (Old Girls) community, and more.  
  • The programme is new, how can you ensure student success?

    While the ECS Pre-University Programme is new, it is firmly grounded in the school’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and leadership development.  In partnership with Northern Pre-University (NPU), the programme meets Ontario accreditation standards, while reflecting the depth and care that define an ECS education.

    Through a dedicated Pre-University Programme Coordinator and our signature programmes, students benefit from a strategic approach supporting university readiness and securing early networking connections.
  • What is the tuition for the Pre-University year?

    The current Pre-University Programme tuition is $30,765 (to be updated to the 2026-2027 fee). Fees may be adjusted in future years in line with standard annual tuition reviews.
  • What is the application deadline?

    Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year must be submitted by March 1st. Once all required materials are received, applications will be reviewed by our Admissions Team, and decisions will be shared within ten days of the deadline. Click here for more information.

ECS is a private school for girls that offers educational services in English from kindergarten to secondary 5, leading to the secondary school diploma (MEQ).
